The treatment and Story:
Do Androids dream of electric sheep and seek to escape redundancy?
We live in a society which seeks to make redundant and exclude. We make redundant on the basis of age, skills, economics, etc. As if people are slot occupiers and not organic being...capable of change and adaptation. Thus of being creatively productive in one way or another.
To create something for the competition I could take up two routes. One, depicting a real junkyard and concentrating on the realism. But as I always prefer an image with a narrative, I decided to use the scope the theme offered to inspect the propensity ours to declare things redundant and throw them away. Be it old age homes or junkyards. Don't we all take on the fear of becoming redundant, instead of seeing a path of evolution.
So what was to happen if a group of very colourful droids were to be relegated to the junkyards? A story was stirring in my mind, and the image above formed in my mind as a beginning of the tale.
However, due to work pressure I couldn't complete the image in time for the competition. However New Beginning did evolve from it and went on to win a few prizes.

The Execution:
The image was modelled and rendered completely in Bryce. I used primitives and boolean operations to create the models. Tried to give a separate function and personality to each of the droid. There's the cleaner droid (with a vacuum pump), Pet droid, gardener droid and a few others.
Beam me up Scotty!
