Brief:
Renderosity was bringing out its first magazine
and thus was seeking an illustration which
projected "New Beginnings". |

Inspiration:
Androids, Philip K Dick's "Do Androids
dream of electric sheep", C3PO, gadgets,

Creative
Strategy:
Since this theme provided for maximum lattidude
as to how one could interpret it, I decided
to fall back on a genre which I liked best,
Sci-fi.
New Beginnings, generally denotes progress
and technological progress at that. This
seems to come at a cost, and its Nature
which is generally paying the price.
Will the zenith of our progress, our own
creation capable of intelligent and cognisant
living, be the ones to appreciate the bounties
that are already ours to enjoy? The gifts
of Nature...now lost. Prey to the never-ending
chase of technology. |

Earth |
Execution:
The setting had to be barren...desolate...Daliesque.
Yet have a certain warmth to it denoting
a New Hope. Decided to create a motely group
of Androids, each with a personality and
utility of its own (I was also inspired
by the group of pirates in Asterix comics.
The huge Magnetic crane I created and placed
in the background, is a personal favourite
of mine). All assembled around a budding
plant, giving it loving nurture and care.
In a realm where natural life-form no longer
exists, the lone budding plant signifying
a new beginning. |
