The Task:
Another insect mechanoid realised. This was done
for the image "Get ORFF my planet!".
It was for a CG challenge which was to show landing
on planet X. I concieved of planet X as a near
asteroid. Its lunar like scape dotted with flying
asteroids, which rather than colliding with it
have embedded themselves on the surface more gently.
But what would move around on such a terrain other
than an ant? Decided to create the ATN which would
adehere to the shape and functions of an ANT,
yet each part of it would have a natural reason
for being. |

Inspiration:
Nature, ants, mechanoids |

Treatment:
The ATN was designed
with retractable parts. So that it has minimal
drag while flying, yet conforms to the shape
of an ant.
The limbs are designed for fractional earth
gravity (0.3-.6 Gs), and the insect like
legs allows it to land on any solid surface,
without necessarily having clearance. |

of the ATN
|
The front unit has a swiss army like carousal
utility pack, having different equipment for exploration
purpose. |

Earth |
The
ATN was modelled completely in Bryce using boolean
operations and primitive based modelling.
The parts of the ATN are:
1. Utility carousal containing various tools and
equipment
2. Front pincers
3. Operators cabin
4. Antenna and probe
5. Pilot cockpit/crew housing
6. Swivel/vector thrust propulsion unit
7. Fuel pod/cargo bay
8. Retractable limbs/landing gear |
